Health
COAPPP is pleased to
highlight an organization, program, or individual
improving the health of teens, with a particular focus
on those committed to the sexual and reproductive health
of teens in Colorado.
Aurora Teen Pregnancy & Prevention Project (ATP3)
Metro Community Providers Network
WHAT YOUTH ARE SAYING ABOUT ATP3
"I appreciate the fact that…you guys opened my
eyes to a lot of things I was too embarrassed to ask
about in class or to anybody…"
"…although sexual education can be an uncomfortable
situation you made it fun and interesting which put
everyone at ease…seems like you two work very hard to
help teenagers with these types of issues which is a
hard thing to find sometimes."
Since 1994, ATP3 has been serving teens in Aurora and
unincorporated Arapahoe County.
In addition to providing case management for pregnant
and parenting teens, the ATP3 provides teen pregnancy
and HIV/STD prevention programs to teens in Aurora and
Cherry Creek Public Schools.
The Teen Clinic provides low-cost, confidential, family
planning-related services two afternoons a week from
MCPN's Helena Clinic location. On the intervention side,
ATP3 staff provides case management to teens who are
pregnant and/or parenting, runs teen parent support
groups in several Aurora high schools, and facilitates a
weekly teen parenting class.
The ATP3 program has plenty reasons to be proud. Of the
several organizations funded by The Colorado Trust's
2000 Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative, it is one of
the few that remains active. Thousands of teens and
their children have been positively impacted by the
staff and services of ATP3 through both its intervention
and prevention services.
What makes the services ATP3 provides important to
the health of teens?
Jo English, the Coordinator of the ATP3 program says,
"We see teens as valuable members of our society who
deserve to receive quality education and care related to
their sexual health. Our services provide teens with the
skills to become better health advocates for themselves
and, where applicable, their children."
